When we originally attacked, Flamebringer and Gnosis had explosives — I'm sure you saw the fireworks. But Flamebringer wouldn't have survived an Originium blast, which is the only reason his suicide bomber tactic worked effectively.
[And like, Elliot doesn't know about you Sesa, but he's not asking Flamebringer to literally kill himself when the man's Oripathy is now worse than Elliot's.]
We do know that the Forest Himself isn't immune to explosives. But to ask Gnosis, Ezell, or anyone else to make enough miniature bombs to blow the Forest to smithereens... I suspect He would find out about it long before we completed it. Then what? Would we go back to square one? How many explosives would it take? How many would we be hauling into the forest?
[Oh yes, he definitely saw...and if he hadn't known better, he would have thought Flamebringer had killed himself in the attempt. Only somebody like him would be crazy enough to blow himself up on Suri's face like that, but hey. It almost worked!
...but no, yeah, he's definitely not asking Flamebringer to do that. Even if he's pretty sure he still would if challenged.]
Mm...I understand. You're saying we need something strong enough to ensure it works the first time, and we only have the one shot. Originium would accomplish that, above all else.
It would, at the cost of damning everyone else to our fate. People who are not Terran. Would it spread to Moder and the others? Ydalir, whose body is made of shadows? If an Originium bomb can kill a Fallen God, what would it do to the Goddesses themselves?
[Elliot leans forward, resting his chin against his intertwined fingers and looking off to the side.]
Is damnation the true cost of freedom, Sesa? That's what I wonder.
[He is...a little afraid, that his answer isn't an immediate and undeniable no, because he's been here long enough to know the kind of torture and torment that the False God has put them through, including but not limited to literal torture. Wouldn't anyone, at that point, be willing to do the unthinkable just to make it all stop...?
His tail moves, curling anxiously around his ankle.]
But I think that is a decision that is not solely ours to make, even if it could work.
That is correct. But I worry — I do not know if Thorns is the only Corrupted among our ranks. Certainly, he has told everyone, and we could feasibly exclude him from discussions so that the Forest does not know... but what of others? Whose minds does He lurk in?
But you're correct. It is not our decision to make. To speculate about, certainly, but not to make.
Now that, I cannot say for sure. I want to say that Thorns is the only one, but the only way we would know is by asking...and we'd be giving ourselves away, wouldn't we?
[He sighs, propping his chin up in his hand.]
I won't dissuade you from bringing this device home with you, if nothing else. I would like to take a look when we're both free at the workshop. I might be able to help.
